Eco-Mark (Japan)

  • As a representative eco-product certification system introduced and operated by the Japan Environment Association, a Japanese non-profit organization, in 1989, this is an eco-labelling system boasting of the world's most active operation achievements.
    In association with Green Purchasing Criteria by Item as stipulated by Japan's Green Purchasing Act enacted in 2000, the Eco-Mark sets certification criteria. The association also operates the Japan Green Procurement Network's (GPN) co-project for green purchase activation. Japanese consumers' recognition of this system reaches 90%.

Environmental Labelling (China)

  • As per the notification of Chinese Environmental Labelling Program in 1983, the system was adopted. A total of 11 relevant ministries including State Environmental Protection Administration and General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) participated and formed the Eco-Labelling Product Certification Commission.
    In 2003, CEC under the State Environmental Protection Administration of China was established to take charge of certification criteria establishment and certification work.

Green Mark (Taiwan)

  • With an eco-product certification system adopted by Taiwan's Environment Administration in 1993, the criteria development and certification business is delegated to EDF.
    The number of certified products has rapidly risen since Taiwan's public agencies are obligated to purchase Green Mark-certified products under the green procurement criteria based on Taiwan's Procurement Act, which was introduced in 1989.

Thailand

  • As an eco-product certification system introduced and operated by the Thai Environment Institute (TEI) a private organization under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Industry, certification focuses on paints, fluorescent lamps, and office supplies items.

Australia

  • The Australian Eco-Labelling Program was adopted by a non-profit private environmentality assessment organization, AELA, in 2001. The organization is operated through support for Australian private society contribution activity in the form of funds.

New Zealand

  • NZ's Eco-Labelling Program was introduced in 1992; it is operated by a private organization designated by a government program. By adopting the government green purchasing program led by the Ministry of Environment in 2005, the priority purchase of Eco-Label certified-products is induced.

Five Nordic Countries

  • As an eco-labeling system adopted in 1989 as per the decision of the Nordic Council of Ministers of five Northern European Countries (Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Iceland), NMN is in charge of decision making on system operation such as selection of target items and setup of certification criteria. As of Feb. 2009, Nordic Swan was attached to some 5,000 products produced by some 1,000 companies. Denmark and Sweden boast of active operation achievements.
